Today's Word Count: 895

Today's Word Count: 895

I started working on this novel project on November 1. Officially NaNoWriMo is dead, but lots of people still set a goal of writing 50,000 words in the month of November anyway. I didn't have a word count goal myself, but I did want to get back into the habit of working on a novel every day, and I did.

I wrote about 5,000 words over the first week and realized that it wasn't quite right, so I adjusted and wrote along for another 20,000 words or so over the rest of the month. That was enough for me to realize exactly what I needed to do, so I set aside the first manuscript and started from scratch. That is what this 895 represents: take three, for lack of a better term. I don't really number my drafts until I have a solid start-to-finish manuscript.

I paused the words-on-page part of writing to read a bit for research and take a lot of notes, both in a digital file and in my paper notebook. I needed to get some things clear for myself before recommitting to the draft, and I did. So here we are at 895 words, and I'll share my progress, which is not always linear or consistent, until I have a workable manuscript.
