Bringing Back Sawdust

Last year, I tried an experiment on the Wingback Workshop that I called Sawdust. The idea was that these were short diary-like entries for my literary day. I talked about the projects I was working on, like finishing the translation and publication of Memoirs of a French Courtesan, and about what I read. I also mentioned whatever was helping or hindering my literary life. Both of those are often the same thing: Mabel.

In its experimental phase, I sent Sawdust out to the subscribers who opened most of the Wingback Workshop newsletters. Those folks seemed to have an interest in what I was writing, so I figured they'd like a weekly literary diary. They did! And then holidays and the final phases of book production happened, and I dropped the experiment.

But Sawdust is coming back! In a few days! And for more readers! I'm going to keep the same format and weekly schedule, but I'm not sure if it will go out on Sunday or Monday. We'll all find out together. Hit reply to this email or leave a comment if you have a preference.

Sawdust will go out to all subscribers via email, and email only. These missives will not be posted on the Wingback Workshop for AI crawlers to find and digest, which also means it won't show up on RSS feeds. My apologies for that. Sawdust will be written by me, a human, for you, also a human, I'm supposing. I'd be delighted if you shared it with other humans via email and I would be happy to have new folks join.

I'll be posting reading roundups and news and such on the Wingback Workshop for all to read, even our robot overlords, and maybe the occasional essay. But the day-to-day good stuff, guideposts for the maintenance of our minds through literature, will be in the Sawdust emails. So make sure you're subscribed!
